1. How long does it take to obtain MARA registration for pet food in China?
Based on past experience, the process of obtaining an import license with MARA is extensive and onerous and often takes longer than six months.
2. Do I need to have my feed product tested?
Technically, yes. You need to have the Guarantee Analysis and the hygienic indexes, including China requires, to be tested by a third-party testing facility.
3. Does the business location influence the timing of MARA approval?
For the MARA registration, business location don’t impact the timing as long as the facility have approval certificate for production and use issued by the relevant competent authority.
For GACC whitelist registration, U.S. pet food manufacturing facilities intending to produce pet food for export to China must first be inspected and approved by APHIS prior to export and annually to maintain approval to export. Each state may have different time about when to inspect.
4. Do pet treats need to be registered?
No, treats, snacks, and edible chews do not need to be MARA registered, but the manufacturing facility must be in the GACC’s whitelist.

6. Are there specific rules regarding product labels in China?
